Is Olive Young cheaper in Korea? What our price checks show
Published 23 October 2026 · Seoul Price Check
Usually, yes. On our 23 October 2026 check, most of the products we could match exactly were cheaper at Olive Young Korea than on Amazon US or Amazon UK, often by 30 to 60%. But a minority were the same price or cheaper at home, and the size of the saving depends heavily on whether Olive Young has the item on sale.
This page explains how we got those numbers, where Seoul wins clearly, where it doesn’t, and how to check a product yourself.
How we compare (so the numbers mean something)
A shelf price in won and an Amazon price in dollars are not directly comparable. For every product on this site we:
- Match the exact product. Same name, same version, a single unit. We drop listings that are duos, gift sets, minis or a different formula. Where we could not confirm a match, we show no comparison rather than a doubtful one.
- Normalise the size. Korea often sells bigger bottles. Anua’s Heartleaf 77% Soothing Toner is 350ml at Olive Young Korea but usually 250ml on Amazon, so we compare the cost of 350ml in each market.
- Add the costs you actually pay. US prices get 7% added for sales tax (a typical combined rate; yours may be lower or higher). UK Amazon prices already include VAT. Seoul prices get about 6% taken off for the tourist tax refund when the receipt qualifies. See our tax refund guide.
- Use one exchange rate, dated. This check used $1 = ₩1,325 and £1 = $1.34.
Five real comparisons
All prices checked 23 October 2026. Seoul price is the Olive Young Korea online price, which stores generally match.
| Product | Seoul (after ~6% refund) | Amazon US (+7% tax) | Amazon UK |
|---|---|---|---|
| COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence, 100ml | $10.64 | $28.88 | $33.47 |
| Anua Heartleaf 77% Soothing Toner, 350ml | $16.18 | $29.50 | $31.87 |
| Beauty of Joseon Dynasty Cream, 50ml | $10.64 | $25.67 | $20.25 |
| Round Lab 1025 Dokdo Toner, 200ml | $10.19 | $18.19 | $16.10 |
| I’m From Rice Toner, 150ml | $19.86 | $19.78 | $25.43 |
The first four are clear wins for Seoul. The last one is a tie for an American shopper: the Korean price was not on sale, and the US listing was competitive.
Why the saving is often so large
Three things work in Seoul’s favour:
- Korean list prices are lower to begin with. Brands price for a very competitive home market, then add distribution, importer and marketplace costs abroad.
- Olive Young runs sales constantly. The big seasonal event (Olive Young Sale) and monthly brand promotions cut prices by 20 to 40%. On our check, COSRX’s snail essence was ₩15,000 against a regular ₩20,000.
- Bigger packs. Korea gets larger bottles and bonus minis for the same price.
When home is just as good, or better
Seoul does not win every time. In this check:
- AXIS-Y Dark Spot Correcting Glow Serum came out cheaper per ml on Amazon US and UK, mainly because the export bottle is 50ml against Korea’s 30ml.
- mixsoon Centella Asiatica Essence was cheaper on Amazon US, and cheaper per ml in the UK’s 200ml size.
- Brands that sell heavily on Amazon (Medicube, Torriden, I’m From) price aggressively there, and Amazon coupons can close the gap.
Our product pages say “Buy it at home” when that is the better deal, and link to the home listing.
Sale price vs regular price
Most Seoul prices on this site are the current Olive Young price, which is often a sale price. The regular price is shown crossed out next to it. If you visit outside a sale, expect to pay the regular price, and the saving shrinks. For COSRX snail essence, the saving for a US shopper drops from about 63% to about 51% at the regular price. Still a good deal, just a smaller one.
Should you fly to Seoul to save on skincare?
No. A typical haul of 8 to 10 products saves somewhere around $50 to $150 compared with Amazon. That is a nice bonus if you are already going, and nowhere near the cost of a trip. Build a list in My Seoul Haul to see your own total.
How to check a product yourself
- Find the exact product name and size on Olive Young Korea (the app has an English mode).
- Find the same single item on Amazon, sold by the brand’s official store if possible.
- Work out the price per ml in your currency, including tax.
- Take off about 6% from the Korean price if your receipt will be ₩15,000 or more and you are eligible for the tourist refund.
Or look the product up here: every page shows the result of those steps, with the date we checked.
Common questions
Is Olive Young Global cheaper than buying in Korea? We have not compared it product by product yet. Olive Young’s international store is convenient for reorders after your trip, but it prices in dollars, so compare it with Amazon the same way before ordering.
Are Seoul products the same as the ones sold abroad? Mostly, but not always. Some sunscreens in particular are sold in a different formula in the US. Each product page has a “Korea vs international version” note where we know of a difference.
Do airport duty-free shops beat Olive Young? Duty-free shops focus on luxury and department-store brands such as Sulwhasoo, and many of the budget brands on this site are not sold there at all. For those, Olive Young is the place to shop.
