Daiso Beauty in Seoul: What's Worth Buying for ₩5,000 or Less

Published 24 October 2026 · Seoul Price Check

Most visitors to Seoul plan an Olive Young haul. Fewer know that Daiso, the budget household store, has become one of the most talked-about places to buy skincare in Korea. Its beauty aisle now carries products from brands you’ll also see at Olive Young, such as VT, Medi-Peel and Madeca21. Nothing in the store costs more than ₩5,000 (about $3.80).

That price cap is the whole story. Daiso Korea sells everything at fixed price points, from ₩500 up to ₩5,000. Brands that want to be on its shelves make products to fit those prices. The result is a beauty section that’s genuinely good value, with one important catch, which we’ll come to.

What’s actually on the shelf

We checked Daiso’s online beauty ranking (weekly, beauty and hygiene) on 24 October 2026. Alongside tissues and wet wipes, these skincare and makeup items were near the top:

Product Daiso price What it is
VT PDRN Glow Sheet Mask ₩1,000 Single sheet mask from VT’s PDRN line
VT PDRN Glow Toner, 200ml ₩5,000 Hydrating toner
VT Reedle Shot 100, 2ml × 6 ₩3,000 Trial packs of VT’s microneedle-style serum
Bonsep Retinol 2500 IU Wrinkle Shot Perfector, 15ml ₩5,000 Retinol serum
Bonsep Vita C Freeze-Dried Double Shot Ampoule Kit ₩5,000 Vitamin C powder-and-liquid kit
Medi-Peel Melanon X Cream, 30ml ₩5,000 Dark-spot cream
Madeca21 Teca Solution Soothing Cream, 50ml ₩5,000 Centella calming cream
Real Barrier Cera Base Calming Moisturizing Cream, 50ml ₩5,000 Barrier cream
Mamicare sea grape skin pack, 80 sheets ₩5,000 Toner pads for a quick sheet-mask effect
Puffy cushion puffs ₩1,000 Replacement makeup puffs

Daiso’s ranking changes quickly, and new brand collaborations appear every few weeks. Popular items sell out, especially in the big tourist-area stores.

How the prices compare with Amazon

For a few of these, we searched Amazon US for the same brand and product name:

  • Medi-Peel Melanon X Cream (30ml): listings on Amazon US were roughly $12.50 to $20. At Daiso it’s ₩5,000.
  • VT PDRN toner: Amazon US sells a VT PDRN toner in a larger 250ml bottle for about $20. Daiso’s is a 200ml bottle for ₩5,000.
  • Madeca21 Teca: Amazon US lists Teca products from about $15. Daiso’s 50ml soothing cream is ₩5,000.
  • VT Reedle Shot 100 and Bonsep retinol: we didn’t find matching Amazon US listings.

On the shelf, that looks like savings of 70% or more. But there’s a reason we don’t list these products in our main price comparison.

The catch: Daiso versions are often different products

Brands frequently make Daiso-specific versions. To hit ₩5,000, a product may come in a smaller size, use a simpler formula or belong to a separate Daiso-only line that shares a name with the brand’s regular products. A VT “PDRN toner” at Daiso is not automatically the same formula as a VT PDRN product at Olive Young or on Amazon.

That doesn’t make Daiso products bad. Many are well reviewed in Korea, and the brands behind them are real. It just means a direct price comparison isn’t always fair, and you should read the label rather than assume.

Three quick checks in store:

  1. Compare the size. Daiso versions are often smaller. A 30ml Daiso cream isn’t the same deal as a 50ml Olive Young jar, even at a third of the price.
  2. Read the Korean ingredient list. It’s printed on every box. If a product claims “PDRN” or “retinol”, look for it on the list (PDRN is often listed as sodium DNA, 소듐디엔에이, and retinol as 레티놀) and see how high up it appears.
  3. Look for the Daiso-only line name. Sub-names that you can’t find on the brand’s main website are usually made for Daiso.

What’s most worth buying

Sheet masks and pads. At ₩1,000 a sheet, Daiso is one of the cheapest places in Seoul to stock up on masks. Even if the formula differs from the brand’s main line, a sheet mask is a short-term hydration step, so the small differences matter less.

Trial sizes of famous products. The VT Reedle Shot 100 packs are a cheap way to see whether you like the prickly microneedle-style sensation before buying a full bottle. If you love it, the larger VT Reedle Shot 300 is on our main list.

Tools and accessories. Cushion puffs, makeup sponges, cotton pads, hair clips, travel bottles and pouches are all excellent value. This is where Daiso beats everywhere else, with no formula questions to worry about.

Simple moisturisers to try. The barrier and calming creams at ₩5,000 are low-risk experiments. For a cream you’ll rely on every day, a well-documented formula like Aestura Atobarrier 365 is still the safer pick.

What to be careful with

Actives. Retinol, vitamin C and dark-spot creams are the products where the strength and the formula matter most. A Daiso retinol might be perfectly good, but if it doesn’t state a percentage you’re guessing. If you’re starting retinol, a product with a clear strength such as COSRX The Retinol 0.1 Cream makes it easier to know what you’re using.

Sunscreen. Buy sunscreen where you can see the full ingredient list and the SPF and PA ratings clearly. Daiso does carry sunscreens, but the main Olive Young brands are better documented.

Anything for very sensitive skin. A short, simple formula like SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Ampoule is easier to trust than a product you can’t research.

Practical tips

  • Go to a big branch. The multi-floor Daiso stores in tourist areas such as Myeongdong have the widest beauty range. Small neighbourhood stores may carry only a few items.
  • Check stock online first. Daiso Korea’s website has a store stock search (매장 상품 찾기). It’s in Korean, but a browser translation works.
  • Go early. Viral items sell out, and restocks are unpredictable.
  • Carry a bag. Daiso charges for shopping bags.
  • Ask about tax refunds at the counter. Whether you can get a tourist tax refund depends on the store. It’s never worth buying extra just to reach the minimum spend.

The bottom line

Daiso is a brilliant add-on to an Olive Young trip, not a replacement for it. Use it for masks, trial sizes, tools and fun experiments. For the core products you’ll use every day, especially actives and sunscreen, buy the full versions you can research and compare.
