What it is
I’m From makes single-ingredient-led skincare, and the Rice Toner is its glow-focused toner. It comes in a 150ml bottle and has a milky, slightly thick texture, closer to a light essence than a splash toner.
The Korean ingredient list starts with water and methylpropanediol, then two light emollients, triethylhexanoin and hydrogenated poly(C6-14 olefin). They’re what make it milky. Niacinamide comes next, then rice extract at 7,778 ppm, followed by purslane, elm root, rice bran extract (50 ppm) and celosia seed extracts. Glycerin and adenosine appear later. There’s no fragrance.
Korea registers it as a functional cosmetic for brightening and wrinkle care.
Who it suits (and who should skip it)
Good pick if
- Your skin looks dull and feels dry or rough
- You like a milky toner that leaves skin soft
- You want a fragrance-free glow toner with niacinamide
Skip it if
- Your skin is very oily or congested
- You want strong brightening; this is gentle
- You’re on a budget; similar milky toners cost less in Seoul
What the ingredients do
Rice has a long history in Korean and Japanese skincare, and rice extracts are used for softening and a brighter look. At about 0.8%, rice extract is a meaningful part of the formula, though the evidence for it is more traditional than clinical.
Niacinamide is the most proven active here. Over a few weeks, it helps even tone and calm redness. The emollients make the toner feel nourishing, so dry skin is comfortable even before moisturiser. Purslane and elm root add a calming touch.
How to use it
I’m From’s directions give two options. As the first step after cleansing, soak a cotton pad and wipe gently, or spread it on with your hands and pat until absorbed. Follow with serum and moisturiser.
It’s gentle enough for morning and night.
How it compares
Anua Peach 77 Niacin Essence Toner is a similar glow toner, cheaper in Seoul, but fragranced. Laneige Cream Skin is richer and can stand in for a light moisturiser. Haruharu Wonder Black Rice Toner is a lighter hydrating option with black rice.
Is it worth buying in Seoul?
Not really, at the regular price. Olive Young’s ₩28,000 is about the same as Amazon US for the same 150ml bottle, and only about a fifth below Amazon UK. If Olive Young has it on promotion, it becomes a better buy.
One bottle clears the ₩15,000 tax refund minimum. At 150ml, pack it in your checked bag.
FAQ
How much rice is in it?
The Korean label lists rice extract at 7,778 ppm (about 0.8%) and rice bran extract at 50 ppm. The milky texture comes mainly from the emollients, not from the rice.
Does it contain fragrance?
No fragrance or essential oils are listed on the Korean label.
Can oily skin use it?
Some can, as a single layer. Very oily skin usually prefers a watery toner.
Is it a functional cosmetic?
Yes. Korea registers it for brightening and wrinkle care, through niacinamide and adenosine.
