Centella Asiatica Essence
A three-ingredient centella essence: water, butylene glycol and 10% centella extract. Nothing else.
Buyer verdictAbout as minimal as skincare gets, and a good calming step for very reactive skin. But the Korean label shows it's 10% centella extract, not the '100% centella' people often assume, and Amazon US currently sells it for less than Seoul. Unless it's on sale, buy it at home.

What it is
Mixsoon built its brand on extreme minimalism, and the Centella Asiatica Essence is its best-known product. It comes in a 100ml bottle with a thin, watery texture.
The Korean ingredient list has just three ingredients: water, butylene glycol and centella asiatica extract at 100,000 ppm, which is 10%. There’s no fragrance, no preservative system beyond the glycol, and nothing else. If you want to know exactly what you’re putting on your skin, it doesn’t get simpler than this.
Who it suits (and who should skip it)
Good pick if
- Your skin is very reactive and you’re trying to cut your routine back to basics
- You want a calming layer to use alongside strong actives
- You’re testing which ingredients your skin tolerates
Skip it if
- You expect noticeable hydration; there’s little to hold water here
- You want an essence with actives for spots, wrinkles or acne
- You’re watching your budget; similar calming products cost less
What the ingredients do
Centella asiatica (cica, or tiger grass) contains compounds such as madecassoside and asiaticoside that are linked to calming irritation and supporting skin repair. At 10% extract it’s a generous amount, and it’s the only active ingredient.
Butylene glycol is a humectant, so it adds a little hydration and helps keep the formula stable. Beyond that, there’s nothing to moisturise or treat. That’s the point for people with very sensitive skin, but it also means you’ll want a moisturiser on top.
How to use it
Mixsoon gives two uses. For daily care, after cleansing, take some in your hands and spread it evenly over the face and neck. As a skin pack, soak a pad and leave it on areas that need extra calm for about 10 minutes.
Follow with serum or moisturiser. It’s gentle enough for morning and night.
How it compares
SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Ampoule is the other famous minimal centella product. It has seven ingredients, adds more hydration and costs less. I’m From Mugwort Essence does a similar calming job with mugwort instead of centella.
Is it worth buying in Seoul?
Usually not, unless it’s on promotion. Olive Young’s regular price is ₩32,000 for 100ml, and Amazon US currently sells the same size for less, even after sales tax. Amazon UK mostly sells a 200ml bottle, too different in size for our comparison.
If you see it on sale at Olive Young, it clears the ₩15,000 tax refund minimum, and the sale price may beat Amazon. Otherwise, the SKIN1004 ampoule is the better Seoul buy.
FAQ
Is it 100% centella?
Not on the Korean label. It lists water first, then butylene glycol, then centella extract at 100,000 ppm, which is 10%. Labels abroad may list the centella extract first, because the extract can be counted together with the water it's made in.
Is it fragrance-free?
Yes. There are only three ingredients and no fragrance or essential oils.
How do I use it as a skin pack?
Mixsoon suggests soaking a pad and leaving it on areas that need extra care for about 10 minutes.
Can I use it with actives?
Yes. It's a good calming layer before or after retinoids, acids or vitamin C.
