K-beauty that isn't cheaper in Korea (and why)

Most products on this site are cheaper in Seoul, but about one in ten is not. In our 23 October 2026 check, these products cost the same or less at home once you compare the same size and include tax. If one is on your list, buy it before you fly and use the suitcase space for something else.
The list
Prices below are for the Korean pack size. Seoul includes an estimated 6% tourist refund; US includes 7% sales tax; UK includes VAT.

The first four were cheaper at home for at least one country. The last three were close to a tie, which in practice means “buy wherever is convenient”.
Why some products cost less abroad
The export bottle is bigger. AXIS-Y sells its serum as 50ml abroad and 30ml in Korea, and the bigger bottle is cheaper per ml. Always compare per ml, not per bottle.
The brand lives on Amazon. Brands such as Medicube, mixsoon and I’m From put a lot of effort into Amazon, with official storefronts, frequent coupons and Lightning Deals. Their Amazon prices are set to compete with each other, not with Olive Young.
The product is not on sale in Korea right now. Olive Young’s discounts rotate. The same product can be 30% cheaper in Seoul next month. Our pages show the regular price crossed out when an item is on sale, so you can see how much depends on timing.
The UK has its own price war. Amazon UK sometimes undercuts the US on Korean skincare, as with mixsoon’s essence in the 200ml size.
How to spot one before you buy
- Check the size. If Amazon sells a bigger bottle, work out the price per ml.
- Look for an official brand store on Amazon. Strong brand storefronts usually mean sharp pricing.
- Look at the Olive Young price history. If the Korean price is at its regular level, you may do better at home or by waiting for the next sale.
- Remember the shipping threshold. Amazon US shipping is usually free over $35 and Amazon UK over £25, or always with Prime. Below that, a small order at home can cost more.
What to buy in Seoul instead
The products with the largest verified savings in this check were toners, essences and creams: COSRX’s snail essence, Beauty of Joseon Dynasty Cream, Anua’s heartleaf toner and Round Lab’s Dokdo toner were all 40% or more cheaper in Seoul for US shoppers. See what to buy at Olive Young in Seoul.
