Red Blemish Clear Soothing Cream
A light, fragrance-free gel-cream with niacinamide, five forms of centella, ferments, panthenol and ceramide NP, for red, oily and breakout-prone skin.
Buyer verdictA reliable calming moisturiser for red, oily or sensitive skin, and one of Olive Young's most popular creams. Amazon US is currently about the same price for the jar alone, but Olive Young's set adds an extra 30ml tube and two serum minis, so Seoul still wins on value. Seoul is clearly cheaper than Amazon UK.

Seoul packs often add a bonus (+30ml+세럼10ml*2ea); we don't count it in the saving.
What it is
Dr.G began as the skincare brand of Gowoonsesang, a Korean chain of dermatology clinics. Red Blemish Clear Soothing Cream is its signature moisturiser: a light gel-cream in a 70ml jar, now in its “EX” version. Olive Young usually sells it as a set with an extra 30ml tube and two 10ml serum minis.
The Korean ingredient list starts with water, glycerin and butylene glycol, then dicaprylyl ether (a light emollient) and niacinamide. Next is a full centella complex: leaf, flower, stem and root extracts, plus madecassoside, asiaticoside, madecassic acid and asiatic acid further down. There are bifida and lactobacillus ferments, panthenol, allantoin, squalane, ceramide NP and sodium hyaluronate. There’s no fragrance.
Who it suits (and who should skip it)
Good pick if
- Your skin gets red, warm or blotchy easily
- You have oily or combination skin that still feels dehydrated
- You’re using acne treatments or retinoids and need a calm, light moisturiser
Skip it if
- Your skin is very dry and needs a rich, lipid-heavy cream
- You want a moisturiser with active anti-ageing ingredients
- You prefer a thick, cushiony texture
What the ingredients do
Niacinamide is high on the list, which is unusual for a soothing cream. It helps calm visible redness, supports the barrier and evens tone over a few weeks, so it does real work here.
Centella asiatica (cica) is the classic Korean calming ingredient. Dr.G uses several parts of the plant plus its purified compounds, madecassoside and asiaticoside, which are linked to soothing and skin repair.
The ferments, panthenol and allantoin add comfort. Ceramide NP and squalane give a little barrier support without making the cream heavy. That balance is why it suits oily, red-prone skin so well.
How to use it
Use it as your moisturiser, morning and night. Spread an appropriate amount over the face and let it absorb. On irritated nights, Dr.G suggests applying a thicker layer and leaving it on as a sleeping pack.
It works well over retinoids, acids or acne treatments as a calming final layer. Use sunscreen in the morning.
How it compares
Aestura AC Collective Calming Gel is a lighter, acne-focused calming gel. Torriden DIVE-IN Soothing Cream is similarly light but more hydration-focused, with five types of hyaluronic acid. Dr.G sits between them, with the strongest redness focus.
Is it worth buying in Seoul?
It depends where you’re comparing from. Amazon US currently sells the 70ml jar for about the same as Olive Young’s sale price, so the jar alone isn’t cheaper in Seoul. But the Olive Young set adds a 30ml tube and two 10ml serums, which the price box doesn’t count. Against Amazon UK, Seoul is clearly cheaper.
The set clears the ₩15,000 tax refund minimum. The jar and extras are bulky, so pack them in your checked bag.
FAQ
Is it fragrance-free?
Yes. The Korean label for the cream lists no fragrance or essential oils.
Can I use it as a sleeping mask?
Yes. Dr.G's directions suggest applying a thicker layer at night as a sleeping pack.
Is it the same as the version sold abroad?
Olive Young sells the current 'EX' version. Overseas listings may be an earlier formula, so check for 'EX' on the jar if it matters to you.
Will it help acne?
It calms the redness and irritation around breakouts and suits acne-prone skin, but it isn't an acne treatment on its own.
