What it is
Isntree is known for simple, hydration-focused skincare, and its Hyaluronic Acid Toner is a long-running best-seller. In Korea it’s sold as the “ultra-low-molecular hyaluronic acid toner”. Olive Young stocks the large 300ml bottle, which is unusually generous for the price.
The Korean ingredient list starts with water, methylpropanediol and sea water, then glycerin, betaine, allantoin and panthenol. The rest of the list is dominated by hyaluronic acid, in more than a dozen forms, from hydrolyzed and sodium hyaluronate to crosspolymer and acetylated versions. Small amounts of witch hazel, hinoki cypress leaf and malachite extracts round it out. There’s no fragrance.
Who it suits (and who should skip it)
Good pick if
- Your skin feels tight or dehydrated after cleansing
- You want a simple, fragrance-free toner that layers under anything
- You like a big bottle you can use generously or with cotton pads
Skip it if
- You want a toner with actives for acne, dark spots or texture
- Your skin is very dry and needs oils or a milky toner
- You prefer a thicker, essence-like toner
What the ingredients do
Hyaluronic acid holds water. Isntree uses many molecular sizes. Larger forms sit on the surface for an instant plump feel, and smaller, hydrolyzed forms are meant to hydrate a little deeper. The result is a watery toner that still feels noticeably hydrating.
Glycerin, betaine and sea water add to the hydration. Panthenol and allantoin keep skin calm and comfortable. Witch hazel adds a slightly fresh feel, in a small amount.
Because it has no oils, it’s light enough for oily skin, but dry skin should follow with a moisturiser.
How to use it
Isntree’s directions are to pour some onto a cotton pad or into your hands after cleansing and pat it gently over the face. On dry days, layer two or three times. Follow with serum and moisturiser.
It’s gentle enough for morning and night and works well before retinoids or acids.
How it compares
Torriden DIVE-IN Toner is the closest rival, similarly hyaluronic-focused. Haruharu Wonder Black Rice Toner is a little thicker, with plant extracts, and is lightly scented. Round Lab 1025 Dokdo Toner is lighter and gently smoothing.
Is it worth buying in Seoul?
Yes. Olive Young sells a 300ml bottle, while Amazon US mostly lists 200ml. Per ml, Seoul works out around half the Amazon US price.
At around ₩14,700 on sale, one bottle is just below the ₩15,000 tax refund minimum, so add a small item to the same receipt. At 300ml, it has to go in checked luggage.
FAQ
Is it fragrance-free?
Yes. The Korean label lists no fragrance or essential oils.
Does it exfoliate?
No. There are no acids or enzymes. It's purely a hydrating toner.
Is it the same as the 'Ultra Low Molecular' toner?
Yes. In Korea it's sold as the ultra-low-molecular hyaluronic acid toner (초저분자 히아루론산 토너). It's the same product line.
How do I use it for extra hydration?
Pat on two or three thin layers instead of one heavy one, or soak cotton pads and leave them on dry areas for a few minutes.
