What it is
Numbuzin numbers its lines by skin concern. No.3 is the “smooth and glowy” line, and this toner is its starting point. It’s a milky, slightly slippery liquid that sits between a watery toner and an essence.
The Korean ingredient list starts with bifida ferment lysate and galactomyces ferment filtrate, ahead of water. Ferment-first formulas like this are what K-beauty calls “first essences”. They’re meant to leave skin looking smoother and more even. After that come niacinamide and humectants, then a short barrier-lipid complex (ceramide NP, cholesterol, stearic and palmitic acids). There are also small amounts of bakuchiol, kojic acid and adenosine. Korea registers it as a functional cosmetic for brightening and wrinkle care.
Who it suits (and who should skip it)
Good pick if
- Your skin looks dull or feels rough, and you’d rather not use acids
- You have normal, dry or combination skin and like a toner with some slip
- You want one step that both hydrates and preps skin for serum
Skip it if
- You’re very oily and prefer a watery, fast-drying toner
- You’ve reacted to ferment ingredients like galactomyces before
- You want strong exfoliation; this smooths gently rather than resurfacing
What the ingredients do
Bifida and galactomyces ferments are the identity of the product. They’re popular in Korean skincare for smoother texture and a brighter look, and they’re very well tolerated by most skin. The evidence is lighter than for niacinamide, but many people like how they make skin look after a few weeks.
Niacinamide is the most proven active here. It helps even out tone and reduce redness, and it supports the barrier. The ceramide, cholesterol and fatty acid trio mirrors the lipids in skin’s own barrier, which is why the toner doesn’t feel stripping.
Panthenol, allantoin and dipotassium glycyrrhizate (from licorice) calm the skin. Bakuchiol, often called a gentle retinol alternative, and kojic acid appear only in small amounts. Treat them as supporting extras, not as a reason to skip a real retinoid or dark-spot serum.
How to use it
After cleansing, pour a little into your palms and press it into skin, or sweep it on with a cotton pad. Numbuzin’s directions allow either. Two thin layers usually work better than one heavy one. Follow with serum, moisturiser and, in the morning, sunscreen.
It has no acids, so you can use it morning and night and alongside retinoids or vitamin C.
How it compares
Numbuzin No.3 Skin Softening Serum is the next step in the same line. It’s more concentrated and smaller, and worth adding if you love the toner. Anua Peach 77 Niacin Essence Toner is the closest rival for a glow toner, with more niacinamide focus and a lighter feel. Missha Time Revolution First Treatment Essence is a more watery, ferment-heavy first essence for people who want that step on its own.
Is it worth buying in Seoul?
Yes, it’s one of the clearer wins. Olive Young usually sells the 200ml bottle with a 50ml bonus, and the price box counts only the main bottle, so the real per-ml saving is better than shown. Even then, Seoul tends to beat Amazon US, and UK prices are much higher.
At 200ml, the bottle is heavy for carry-on liquids. Pack it in your checked suitcase.
FAQ
Does it contain fragrance?
Not on the current Korean label. Olive Young's full ingredient list has no fragrance or essential oils. Caramel is listed, but only as a colourant.
Does it exfoliate?
Not with acids. The 'smoothing' comes from ferments, humectants and soft lipids rather than AHA or BHA, so it's gentle enough for daily use.
Why is the Korean name different?
In Korea it's sold as 넘버즈인 3번 보들보들 결부스팅 토너, roughly 'No.3 soft texture-boosting toner'. 'Super Glowing Essence Toner' is the English name used abroad. Check for the No.3 and the pink-beige bottle.
Can I use it with the No.3 serum?
Yes, they're designed as a pair. Toner first, then the serum, then moisturiser. You don't need both, though; the toner works fine on its own.
