Mixsoon Bean Essence

Product photo: mixsoon.us (official brand store). The pack size shown may differ from the Korean 50ml.

Mixsoon

Bean Essence

Mixsoon's cult essence with just four ingredients on the Korean label: fermented soybean, pomegranate, barley seed and pear. A slippery, slightly sticky essence that doubles as a gentle massage step for rough texture.

Buyer verdictA good pick if you want a very short ingredient list and a smoothing, glowy essence. Its sticky texture divides people, and it's pricey for 50ml. Seoul is a little cheaper than Amazon for the same bottle, a modest rather than big saving.

What it is

Mixsoon is a Korean brand built on very short ingredient lists, and Bean Essence is its best-known product. It’s a slippery, translucent essence in a 50ml bottle, and it became popular online for the smooth, “glass skin” look it gives.

The Korean ingredient list is remarkably short. It has just four ingredients: lactobacillus/soybean ferment extract, lactobacillus/pomegranate ferment extract, saccharomyces/barley seed ferment filtrate and lactobacillus/pear juice ferment filtrate. There’s no separately listed water and no fragrance.

Mixsoon gives two ways to use it: as a hydrating essence, or as a massage step for rough texture and excess sebum.

Who it suits (and who should skip it)

Good pick if

  • You like minimal formulas and want to know exactly what’s on your skin
  • Your skin feels rough or looks dull, and you want a smoother, glowier finish
  • You enjoy layering a slippery essence under moisturiser

Skip it if

  • You dislike tacky textures; it stays a little sticky for a minute or two
  • You have a soy allergy, or your skin has reacted to ferments before
  • You want a proven active for dark spots, acne or wrinkles

What the ingredients do

Fermented ingredients are popular in Korean skincare for hydration, smoothness and a healthy glow. Fermentation breaks plant materials into smaller compounds, such as sugars, amino acids and organic acids, that skin finds easy to take up. The evidence is lighter than for niacinamide or retinoids, but many people like the way ferment essences make skin look and feel.

The soybean ferment gives the essence its slip and its conditioning feel. The pomegranate, barley and pear ferments add more of the same. Because the formula is so short, it’s easy to tell whether it agrees with your skin.

How to use it

Mixsoon’s directions give two routines:

  • Hydration: after cleansing and toner, apply the essence and let it absorb.
  • Texture care: after cleansing, massage the essence over the face in small circles, focusing on rough or oily areas.

Use one or two pumps. If the tacky stage bothers you, press it in with your palms and wait a minute before moisturiser. It’s gentle enough for morning and night.

How it compares

Missha Time Revolution First Treatment Essence is a watery ferment essence, lighter in feel. Neogen Real Ferment Micro Essence is another ferment-heavy essence with a thinner texture. Mixsoon Centella Asiatica Essence is the brand’s calming option if redness is your main concern.

Is it worth buying in Seoul?

A little. Olive Young sells the same 50ml bottle that Amazon US and UK list, and Seoul is modestly cheaper than both. It’s one of Mixsoon’s pricier products, so it clears the ₩15,000 tax refund minimum by itself, which adds to the saving.

At 50ml, it fits in a carry-on liquids bag.

FAQ

Does it really have only four ingredients?

Yes, on the Korean Olive Young label: soybean, pomegranate, barley seed and pear ferments. Some overseas listings show a slightly different list, so check the label on the bottle you buy.

Does it exfoliate?

Not like an acid. Mixsoon suggests massaging it in circles to help with rough texture and sebum, but it's a gentle, physical effect from the slippery texture, not a chemical peel.

Is it safe for a soy allergy?

Fermented soybean is the main ingredient. If you have a known soy allergy, or skin that reacts to soy products, patch-test or avoid it.

Is it fragrance-free?

Yes. There's no fragrance or essential oil on the Korean ingredient list. It has a faint natural scent from the ferments.
