Ceramidin Skin Barrier Moisturizing Cream
Dr.Jart+'s classic barrier cream: a rich cream with five ceramides, cholesterol, palmitic and stearic acid, panthenol and shea butter, lightly scented with geranium, bergamot and sage oils.
Buyer verdictA comforting, well-built barrier cream for dry, dehydrated or winter-stressed skin. It's pricier than drugstore ceramide creams, and the essential oils mean very sensitive skin may do better with a fragrance-free option. Olive Young's set adds two 15ml minis.

What it is
Dr.Jart+ is a Korean brand with roots in dermatology, and Ceramidin is its long-running barrier line. This is the original Ceramidin Skin Barrier Moisturizing Cream, a rich, white cream in a 50ml jar. Olive Young often sells it as a set with two 15ml minis. The brand also has a newer Ceramidin Ultra cream, sold separately.
The Korean ingredient list starts with water, glycerin and caprylic/capric triglyceride, then dipropylene glycol, cetearyl alcohol and a group of emollients, including silicones and shea butter. Mid-list are panthenol and cacao extract, followed by five ceramides (NP, NG, NS, AS and AP), cholesterol, palmitic acid and stearic acid. At the end are scented geranium, olive, bergamot and sage oils, citronellol and a yellow colourant.
Who it suits (and who should skip it)
Good pick if
- Your skin is dry, tight or flaky, especially in cold weather
- Your barrier feels damaged from over-exfoliating or harsh products
- You like a rich cream with a light, natural scent
Skip it if
- Your skin is very sensitive or reacts to essential oils
- You’re oily and want a light gel moisturiser
- You want the best value; drugstore ceramide creams cost much less
What the ingredients do
Skin’s barrier is held together by ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acids. Creams that supply all three, like this one, help dry or damaged skin hold on to water and feel comfortable again. Having five different ceramides, rather than one, mirrors the variety found in skin itself.
Shea butter, caprylic/capric triglyceride and the silicones give the cream its richness and slow down water loss. Glycerin and panthenol hydrate and soothe.
The essential oils give the cream its scent. They’re present in small amounts, but they’re the most likely ingredients to bother sensitive skin.
How to use it
Dr.Jart+‘s direction: morning and evening, apply it at the cream step and let your palms’ warmth help it absorb. Warm a small scoop between your fingertips, then press it over the face.
At night, it can be your last step over serums and retinoids. In the morning, use a thinner layer and give it a few minutes before sunscreen.
How it compares
Aestura Atobarrier 365 Cream is the fragrance-free, dermatology-shelf alternative, lighter and better for sensitive skin. Illiyoon Ceramide Ato Concentrate Cream is a far cheaper, fragrance-free drugstore option that works for face and body.
Is it worth buying in Seoul?
It depends what you want. We haven’t matched a like-for-like set on Amazon yet, so there’s no direct comparison. Olive Young’s set gives you 80ml in total (50ml plus two 15ml minis), which brings the per-ml price down, and it often goes on promotion. It clears the ₩15,000 tax refund minimum by itself.
If you just want a good ceramide cream, the drugstore options are far cheaper. All three containers are under 100ml, so the set can go in a carry-on liquids bag.
FAQ
Does it contain fragrance?
There's no ingredient listed as fragrance, but it does contain scented geranium, bergamot and sage oils, plus citronellol, so it has a light herbal scent. Very sensitive skin may prefer a fragrance-free cream.
Is this the new Ceramidin Ultra cream?
No. Olive Young now also sells a renewed Ceramidin Ultra Moisturizing Cream. This page covers the original Ceramidin Skin Barrier Moisturizing Cream, which is still sold in a 50ml set.
Can oily skin use it?
It's rich, so oily skin will usually find it heavy in the daytime. Combination skin can use it on dry areas, or at night only.
Can I use it after retinol or acids?
Yes. A ceramide cream like this is a good buffer over retinoids and exfoliants. It has no acids of its own.
