What it is
Abib is a Korean brand known for minimal, apothecary-style packaging. This is the richest cream in its Jericho Rose line: a thick white cream in a 75ml squeeze tube. Olive Young usually sells it with a 30ml tube added.
The Korean ingredient list explains the richness. After water and two humectants come caprylic/capric triglyceride, diisostearyl malate, coconut oil and shea butter, then fatty alcohols and waxes that make it cushiony. Panthenol sits mid-list, followed by Jericho rose extract, which Abib lists at 1,240 ppm. Near the end there are small amounts of adenosine, lactobacillus ferment, chaga mushroom and blue agave extracts.
Korea registers it as a functional cosmetic for wrinkle care because of the adenosine. There’s no fragrance.
Who it suits (and who should skip it)
Good pick if
- Your skin is dry, tight or flaky, especially in winter or on long flights
- You want a fragrance-free night cream that feels rich and comforting
- You like a hygienic tube instead of a jar you dip fingers into
Skip it if
- You’re oily or acne-prone; the oils and butters can be too much
- You want a light moisturiser for under makeup in hot weather
- You want strong anti-ageing actives such as retinol or peptides
What the ingredients do
Shea butter and coconut oil are classic rich emollients. They soften rough skin and form a light seal that slows water loss, which is why dry skin feels comfortable for hours. The fatty alcohols (cetearyl, behenyl, arachidyl) and waxes aren’t drying alcohols. They’re what give the cream its thick, cushiony feel.
Panthenol and dipotassium glycyrrhizate (from licorice) are gentle soothing ingredients. Jericho rose extract is the theme of the line. It’s present at a meaningful level for an extract, but its benefits are less studied than the basic moisturising ingredients, so think of it as a supporting player.
Adenosine is the ingredient Korea accepts for wrinkle-care claims. Here it’s a small extra, not a treatment.
How to use it
Abib’s directions say to spread a suitable amount along the skin’s texture, then pat gently until absorbed. Use it as your last step at night, after toner and serum. A pea-sized amount covers the face, so the tube lasts a long time.
On very dry days you can use it in the morning too: apply a thin layer and wait a few minutes before sunscreen so it doesn’t pill. It sits comfortably over retinoids and acids, and helps cushion them if they make your skin dry.
How it compares
Aestura Atobarrier 365 Cream is lighter and more focused on ceramides and barrier repair. It’s the better pick for sensitive or damaged skin. Beauty of Joseon Dynasty Cream is a dewier, lighter jar cream for normal to dry skin. Abib’s tube is the richest of the three.
Is it worth buying in Seoul?
Yes, especially if you’re comparing with the UK. Amazon UK mostly sells a 50ml tube, and per ml Seoul works out much cheaper, even before counting the 30ml bonus. Amazon US mainly lists a small 30ml size that isn’t a fair match, so we leave that comparison out.
At ₩35,000 the tube clears the ₩15,000 tax refund minimum by itself. Both the 75ml tube and the 30ml bonus tube are under 100ml each, so they can go in a carry-on liquids bag.
FAQ
Does it contain fragrance?
No. The Korean ingredient list has no fragrance or essential oils.
Is it OK for acne-prone skin?
Be careful. Coconut oil and shea butter are high on the list, and some breakout-prone people find rich creams like this clog their pores. Try it on a small area first.
What is Jericho rose?
A desert plant that curls up and dries out, then unfurls when it gets water again, hence 'resurrection plant'. Abib uses it as the theme of the line. The extract is listed at 1,240 ppm (about 0.12%).
Can I use it in the morning?
Yes, if your skin is dry. Use a thin layer and give it a few minutes before sunscreen. Normal skin will usually prefer it at night only.
